A Few Good Men (1992)

Col Jessep (Jack Nicholson)

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Platoon (1986)

Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), Platoon (1986)

Well, here I am, anonymous, all right. With guys nobody really cares about. They come from the end of the line, most of them, small towns you never heard of: Pulaski, Tennessee; Brandon, Mississippi; Pork Bend, Utah; Wampum, Pennsylvania. Two years’ high school’s about it. Maybe if they’re lucky, a job waiting for them back in a factory. But most of ’em got nothing. They’re poor. They’re the unwanted. Yet they’re fighting for our society and our freedom. It’s weird, isn’t it? They’re the bottom of the barrel, and they know it. Maybe that’s why they call themselves grunts, ’cause a grunt can take it, can take anything. They’re the best I’ve ever seen, Grandma. The heart and soul.

Apocalypse Now (1979)

Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore (Robert Duvall)

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t find one of ‘em, not one stinkin’ dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like … victory. Someday this war’s gonna end.

Inglorious Basterds (2009)

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), Inglorious Basterds (2009)

And our battle plan will be that of an Apache resistance. We will be cruel to the Germans, and through our cruelty they will know who we are. And they will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the German won’t not be able to help themselves but to imagine the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the German will be sickened by us, and the German will talk about us, and the German will fear us. And when the German closes their eyes at night and they’re tortured by their subconscious for the evil they have done, it will be with thoughts of us they are tortured with. Sound good? (YES, SIR!) That’s what I like to hear. But I got a word of warning for all you would-be warriors. When you join my command, you take on debit. A debit you owe me personally. Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y’all will git me one hundred Nazi scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred dead Nazis. Or you will die tryin.

They missed a great one from “The Halls of Montezuma” in a scene where a sergeant is frantically trying to use an overlay to find a source of japanese rocket attack as the clock counts down to the start of an American offensive a coastwatcher asks him “Didn’t your General Sherman have something to say about war?” And without looking up the sergeant replies “Yea he said ‘War is hell’, but what did he know that eightball never left the states.”

You folks are missing some of the classics:

“You can still be a hero crawling! And you won’t get your name on any lists.”
